About The Band

Setting a Scene for Sundowning

The Royal Sundowners fall into a deep pocket of full sound and infectious grooves with alluring vocals, soulful wiggle keys, bright rhythm guitar, groovy bass lines, and bouncy beats.

Inspired by 70s soul funk blues, they reimagine Amy Winehouse, Bill Withers, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Wonder, Hall & Oates, and more. Picture a scene of tight sounds as the sun goes down, enjoying a drink with friends, while you shout at the band "I love this song!"

Our Story

Back in the pandemic times, when there were no gigs, no shows, nowhere to play music within the vicinity of other people, word spread of local players coming together in an East Vancouver park. When the weather was clear, an SMS would announce an East Van Space Jam in the grass.

With gear loaded onto wagons and instruments plugged in to car batteries, player circles appeared under the shade of various trees, filling the neighbourhoods with funky tunes. The call was open to whom ever was available to drop in for an afternoon, call some songs for the crew to jam on, and stay to enjoy a beverage through sundown.

From a rotating cast of musical characters, 5 seasoned musicians have stuck together to play their favourite soul and blues tunes, and recreate a sundowning vibe for the live stage.
